STORY

Located in Lantzville, on beautiful Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Spice of Life Catering has been serving Nanaimo and surrounding areas, including Qualicum Beach, Parksville, Ladysmith and Duncan, since 1987.

Spice of Life has an established reputation for outstanding catering in Nanaimo and area. Owners Cheryl and Kelly Nixon purchased Spice of Life in 2005 and bring a fresh look and additional services such as wedding cakes. With years of experience and a total commitment to customer service, Kelly and Cheryl carry on the tradition of superb catering expected of Spice of Life Catering.

Spice of Life Catering has received many awards for the quality of the catering and customer service. Spice of Life was awarded the Better Business Bureau Torch Award in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2014. Spice of Life received the Best Caterer in Nanaimo award in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022 from the Nanaimo Daily News.

Cheryl Nixon

Cheryl serves as the head chef, with over 20 years of experience in the hospitality and food industry. Cheryl knows her way around a catering kitchen; directly out of culinary school she served as a catering chef at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). Cheryl then worked as Kitchen Manager for 5 years in one of Western Canada's largest catering kitchens at Elizabethan Catering in Edmonton. Cheryl's continued quest for knowledge about food resulted in her returning to school to earn a Diploma in Food and Nutrition Management. Cheryl's passion for cooking and baking has led her to travel as far as Chicago and Australia to take classes from world renowned artists in the food industry.

Spice of Life Catering Event Catering Team

Kelly Nixon

Kelly serves as the day-to-day operations manager for Spice of Life Catering. Having worked for many years as a research assistant at the University of Alberta, Kelly has developed a strong attention to detail. Working part-time at Elizabethan Catering, Kelly has learned the ins and outs of the catering business.

Cheryl and Kelly previously operated the successful business "Sweet Art" where they created some of Edmonton's best sugar art.

Finally, Spice of Life Catering would not be successful without the amazing team of dedicated staff that help make your catered event a success.
